JAK inhibitors

Drugs that block Janus kinase enzymes, interrupting the inflammatory signalling through which the immune system attacks the follicle. They are the first systemic treatments ever approved for alopecia areata.

They work by suppressing part of the immune system, which is also their limit: regrowth can reverse when treatment stops, and the approvals are for alopecia areata. None is approved for common pattern hair loss, whose driver is hormonal rather than autoimmune.
