Development of KL130008 for alopecia areata was discontinued by Kelun-Biotech.

Development stopped.
Calms the immune attack on the follicle by blocking JAK signalling - the class that transformed alopecia areata.

How it is meant to work
The alopecia areata record describes only an oral capsule at three dose levels. The drug class comes from the same molecule's rheumatoid arthritis trial, published in BMC Medicine in 2025, which identifies it as a JAK1/2 inhibitor, the same class as baricitinib.
Why it matters
One hundred and fourteen adults with severe disease, including totalis and universalis, were randomised from November 2022. The study was terminated on 16 April 2024, its primary completion date, and no result has been released; Kelun-Biotech's stated reason is an adjustment to its development strategy unrelated to safety or efficacy, and it gave no more. Oral JAK inhibitors were already approved for alopecia areata in the US, EU and Japan by then, all of them in this register, so a later entrant in the same class faced a crowded field. The rheumatoid arthritis trial, published in 2025, called for Phase 3 studies.
