Why it matters
One of the few non-JAK oral candidates tested in alopecia areata: ASLAN described farudodstat as a potent dihydroorotate dehydrogenase inhibitor, a class that starves activated lymphocytes of pyrimidines. The Phase 2a, about 60 adults with at least half the scalp affected, randomised 2:1 against placebo for 12 weeks with crossover, dosed its first patient in May 2023 and was three-quarters enrolled by April 2024 with a readout promised for that autumn. It never came: ASLAN filed for voluntary liquidation in July 2024, leaving the asset to whatever buyer its liquidator finds, and the registry entry has not been updated since December 2023.
