Aderans dermal sheath cup cells (Ji Gami)
Development of Aderans dermal sheath cup cells (Ji Gami) for androgenetic alopecia was discontinued by Aderans Research Institute.
Eleven Phase 2 studies of an autologous cell therapy, halted when funding stopped after the last of them completed in 2013, and licensed in 2024 to a company that shut down within the year.
This programme is no longer being actively pursued.

Development stopped.
Uses stem or progenitor cells to regenerate or replace follicle tissue.
A research record, not medical advice: being listed here says nothing about whether a treatment works or whether it is right for you. Talk to a dermatologist about your own case.
How it is meant to work
A piece of the patient's own occipital scalp, its dermal and epidermal cells expanded in culture and injected back into balding scalp; one study used dermal cells alone, the rest the mixture. The registry records say nothing about dermal sheath cup cells, the cell type RCH-01 and Shiseido's Japanese programme use, so the comparison often drawn between them is not one the records support.
Why it matters
Aderans Research Institute, the US research arm of the Japanese hair company that owns Bosley, ran eleven Phase 2 studies between 2008 and 2013 and posted results for none; a clinic newsletter at the time reported that the cells may have revived existing follicles rather than made the new ones that were the goal, and that the parent had stopped funding the work. Stemson Therapeutics took an exclusive licence in March 2024 and confirmed in December 2024 that it had shut down. Discontinued twice over.

Listing a trial is not a recommendation to join one. Eligibility, risks and costs vary enormously — discuss any trial with your own doctor first.
