Scarring alopecia
A group of conditions in which inflammation destroys the follicle and replaces it with scar tissue. Unlike the others here, the loss is permanent once it has happened, which makes stopping the inflammation early the whole game.
Almost nothing is developed specifically for these. What is being tried is mostly borrowed — drugs approved elsewhere in dermatology, taken into scarring alopecia by academic investigators rather than by their sponsors.
